I have played RO for years and still like it. If you like games with a variety of players, active guilds, competition, PvE (player vs environment), PvP (player vs player), and arena combat in an MMORPG setting, then this can be fun. Every week there are battles where alliances, guilds, and players defend castles against others attacking it. An overall summary of some of the aspects of RO is at wikipedia.

RO player characters exist in a world with a player environment that gradually changes with the passage of time. Major changes in the features and history of the world take place as episodes in the RO timeline. However, one important thing separates RO from all other major "free" MMORPG. I don't know how many at any one time since there is no /who type command. Guessing the number of players based upon the size of the War of Emperium (WoE) castle attacks is not accurate either as the majority of players actually do not WoE. The WoE is large scale though.

Remember that it is episode 13.X now, so there is another continent beyond the rift gate. That rift gate opened up with the destruction of Morroc, so if you had quit some time ago, then you missed the various changes in the game. The world history continually advances and various changes occur. There is the 3rd class now to go along with your transcends. As for bots, all games have them. Many in Aion to Warcraft are run by chinese companies using bots to farm for items/game_currency so that they can resell it for actual real life money. They also sell leveling services too for Aion, Warcraft, etc. Heck, almost everyone I know that plays Warcraft uses macros and bots for autonavigation and item farming.

I recommend you ignore any bots and play to have fun. If you spend 100% of the time whining, how much time are you spending orgasming? Whine less, orgasm more!

If you have not PvE in the New World, you should try it. There are new towns out there as well with new types of things to try out. HINT: Remember to catch enough fish to feed the cats! *wink*

Do you ever visit support sites such as irowiki.org? Do you use sites like ragial.com to check on merchants' item prices? But if you are really curious, you would just go to the official site's forums and lurk there for the answer to your questions....

For those who have not played RO for awhile, the Kafra Corporation now has a competitor of sorts in the Cat Hand Association. It is a new group of mercantile cats who have banded together to form their own trading group. Different from the Kafra Corporation, the Cat Hands work with a combination of money and credit on deposit with them.

I've played a few MMORPGs and it seems like all of them were heavy on grind (PSO, WoW, Mabinogi)

If you don't have grinding in an MMO, it really isn't an MMO

If you know what you are doing and have help such as borrowed gears, you can level up very fast without a huge amount of time spent grinding. RO was not made to artificially force grinding nor was it made to eliminate fast-leveling methods as the company finds out about them (like in WoW). Consequently, the players who know what they are doing create new chars and level them up from novice to 99 in a few days if they have help. Some players have come onto the server and leveled from scratch (no help) to 99 in under 3 weeks without playing a lot each day.

I'm a fairly casual player, yet I can level up a novice to job50 in about 12 hours if I don't chat, waste time, explore, WoE, browse the merchants overly long, go on forums and side quests, or help other players. There's other parties out there leveling up and it is possible for you to join them too.

If you have lag, then that can increase your leveling time quite a bit to 99 before you transcend. In WoW, people throw themselves at monsters since there is no experience/level loss for dying. That sure makes things so much easier than RO where you get a 1% loss for dying; that is just enough to keep things interesting without slowing people down too much. It also gives people incentive to learn how to play better instead of just zerg-rushing monsters over and over to wear them down regardless of how many deaths you have. I've seen all too many WoW chars do that while in RO you see expert parties march thru 50 MVP in ONE sitting in order to defeat Naght Seiger and have a chance to get enough items to craft the Violet Fear. Some items in RO have their own unique COLOR sprites as they are wielded, and Violet Fear is one of the impressive looking ones.

Yes and No. It depends on your skills as a player and your ability to focus on the tasks you need to do. There was once a leveling speed contest on a 5x rate private RO and the winning player leveled up a scratch novice (no help allowed) to level 68 2nd class (I forget which level) in approx 12 minutes. While it is slower on a 1x rate official server, the official one has leveling quests and events that the 5x rate one did not have.

Yes, because WoW has added a ridiculous amount of level grinding now that they've dropped the amount of XP required to level in the 10-70 bracket, added items that increase XP earned and provide stacking bonuses, introduced a system that allows casual players to consistently earn double experience, and added XP gain to PvP.

RO is still a grindfest for players who don't know what they are doing which is most of them. Ha, ha. Anyways, you can see that in the game and in some ways that is good because having a lot of people playing casually means that there are lot of people to party with. The hardcore players are usually uncooperative with anyone but each other.

WoW staff seems to be working on the next version of WoW, so that may be why the current Warcraft was changed to lure in even more casual players to their branded product. That will provide a larger pre-made audience to draw customers from when the next version of WoW is released.

Ragnarok Online has its share of amusing stories such as the japanese girl who offered a night's comfort to someone who would give her black cat's ears. What about that WoW tale about the woman who offered to let you mount her in real life in return for an epic mount in the game?

Is there a URL for the complete raw of Victim Girls 2? The translated version by SaHa that was publicly available is actually incomplete since something like 2 chapters from the doujin are not included. That is why you don't see a cover and end cover for it as well.

No. The official servers, including the free-to-play server has the NEW battle/fighting/leveling method/mechanics that was implemented with the recent huge Renewal update. That significantly encourages the characters to go out and try new areas for leveling and it also reduces leveling time as the amount of exp you need to level up has been greatly reduced. You also get bonus exp for killing harder monsters now and less exp for killing super easy monsters. That of course also hurts bots as they typically kill easy monsters over and over; now bots will have a much harder time leveling. It should put a big damper on the archery bots killing geographers and their tougher cousins. It also means that alchs leeching exp from their homunculi can't do what they used to do. heh heh It's not a punishing change and helps the genuinely active player level up. Maps that used to be abandoned now have more chars on them and people seek more parties too. I guess that's why they called the update Ragnarok Renewal.

Since a third of the nouns and verbs begin with "smurf..." in the smurf language, it would probably make spell casting troublesome since you'd have to pay close attention to what it LOOKED like instead of looking at the name of the spell just cast.

The valkyrie server is the free to play one, so download that free game client. Christmas season is typically when Gravity gives players a chance to get a unique pet. If you miss it, then you have to wait until the next season. Since the 3rd Class and huge Renewal changes are recent, there have been a lot of contests and special offerings for characters. If you thought you knew RO from years ago, you should give it a try again, and be sure to visit the new continent (and its towns/quests/services) beyond the rift in morroc. I wish they would give out Fabre pets though!!!

It looks like the naughty poring is running off with the pantsu!

In the actual RO game, characters can drop pantsu and if a poring is nearby, it will probably come over and pick it up. If you are fast, you can get your pantsu back before the poring eats it. If the poring eats it, then the pantsu is gone forever. The type of pantsu doesn't matter; the tiger stripe pantsu gets eaten equally fast as the regular pantsu.
