Every con I ever go to is an awkward story. I swear I have a spaghetti factory in my pockets.
I almost never hear when people are asking me for pictures, and even when I do hear them I have no idea how to pose even if I practiced before hand (WHAT THE HELL DO YOU DO WITH YOUR HANDS?) and talking with people is awful because even if i love an anime/game to death i will automatically forget everything about it when talking to people. ughhhh


But anyway, this last Sakuracon we had a whole bunch of people from my city going and a fair amount of us wound up at the same hotel. I see one of my friends in one of his regular costumes across the bar/lounge in our hotel so I wave at him. He smiles and waves back, I am sitting at a table with food so I wave for him to come over and he starts heading my way. He gets up to the table and I grab him by the arm (in a friendly way) saying "HEY KYYyyy-... uh". It is not my friend, he was not waving at me, he was waving at some people behind me, and it was just coincidence that he started walking past our table. So he sorta gives me a "what are you doing crazy lady?!" look and continues on his way while I mumble something about being sorry and how I mistook him for someone else.

In all fairness, he still looked an awful lot like my friend close up.

Not about me, but I visited my college's anime club once and the stupid attention whore vp was trying to give some overblown intro to another club member and referred to her as "our resident cosplay queen" and some other girl got all flustered and giggly and tried to stand up before he called out the other person's name. I thought it was hilarious but she was probably embarrassed half to death.

Well, it wrinkled in the middle at the con, but instead of looking like camel toe or something it just looked like I had a small penis.
Then some people ask for my picture and one guy walks over with his camera ready, looks down at my crotch, kind of grimaces, and walks away without a picture.
I guess I wasn't too embarrassed, though, cause pictures of me never surface the Internet so I don't have anything to worry about. I will make the panty fit next time, though.

This is the story of my goddamn life. If I see three cosplayers in nice costumes that I don't recognize, I stupidly assume they're all from the same series and ask for a photo. Then they look at me funny before explaining that #1 is from A, and only 2 and 3 are from B. I try to explain that I just really like the costumes and wanted to get pictures of them but by that time, I've usually gone full retard.
When other people make that mistake with me if I'm with someone else, I just take it as a compliment and don't mind at all. Some cosplayers don't get why you'd get a photo if you don't recognize a costume, but I think most of it is that I just make everything awkward.

My first con in cosplay. I was in some kind of japanize style costume (hakama and some shit). So i here i was just chilling around, all my friends misteriously disappear. STEP ON MY FUCKING HAKAMA AND FALL FROM THE STAIRS AND FUCKING FLY LIKE A HELICOPTER AND FALL ON THE FLOOR WITH MY FACE (ofcourse i'm not the fucking cat i was really scared and my hands are shaking and i just like freeze) And then everyone started to look at me and i was really scared of everyone when they don't look and now THEY. ALL. FUCKING. LOOK. AT. ME. I wish i was gone forever. One cute and kind girl come to me and ask something like "are you okay?" and i say something like "yeakhdjfab...." and run away. Not the most embarrassing story, I doubt anyone took the time to inspect my stall and realize I was asleep on the floor inside, but oh god do I cringe whenever I think about it.

Not at a con, but I was crossplaying Shanks at my college's open house (our club booth was styled to look like the Going Merry and we had a bunch of people cosplaying from One Piece to go along with the theme). I had injured my foot the day before and it had started to hurt pretty bad so I went to the health center.

At first they wouldn't let me see a doctor because it was "open only for visitors, not students" even though it was completely empty and HI I'M A STUDENT WHOSE TUITION HELPS FUND THIS AND I NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION TOO, but when they finally did, the person taking down my information looked at me like I had grown a third eye. When the doctor came to check out my foot, she froze and just stared at me for a good thirty-forty seconds before checking me over and giving me a prescription.

I go to pick up my prescription and I get similar strange staring treatment. My friends had told me I had looked pretty pale/sick, so I thought that might be it. I get back to campus and go to the bathroom and as soon as I see my reflection, I get it. I'm cosplaying Shanks. I have an open shirt with my chest bound and facial hair drawn on my face with a pen. I was very retroactively embarrassed.

And later it turned out that my foot was infected, I had to go to the hospital twice for it, and that expensive prescription that the doctor had me get was useless! Woohoo!

…and strangely enough, now I want to cosplay Shanks again.

I live in Finland so there's always awkward moments at cons. People here(me included) tend to be pretty quiet and reserved and it's weird to have "small talk" with strangers. When two shy people like this try to discuss about something there might be some awkward tension but I'm pretty sure most con goers understand it very well.

I was cosplaying as Trucy from Apollo Justice at Animazement, am really nervous and have a really hard time talking to people i dont know. Convince my uncle to cosplay 'hobo' Phoenix with me so i feel more comfortable in costume and in public.
See a cosplayer i love watching on DA as Edgeworth, first DA person i've seen in person before. I want to say hi and get pics so bad but i'm too nervous to even walk closer to their group. Later when i am turned away she walks by and say something to me, i think it was along the lines of 'nice dress'.
I am surprised and want to say like a million things! but just kind of awkwardly smile and look away, she walks away, i feel like an idiot. I avoid the main con hall and stick to the sides because i feel so embarrassed at myself. I am such a loser! haha i need to find ways to relax at future cons, i get way too scared. Any suggestions?

That was your first con right? I wouldn't worry too much, it's perfectly normal to feel just a little spazzy the first time, but as you attend more conventions you'll inch further into your comfort zone in the presence of other congoers, and before you know it you'll be making conversation with anyone and maybe even forming some lasting friendships.

You'll find that most cosplayers, at least in my experience, are cool, down-to-earth people. Hell, I'm not super outgoing or anything, but I once spent four hours talking to a girl who approached me because she liked my cosplay, and now she's my best friend.

no but seriously, you get used to it, if it proves to bee much too nerviousness, try going as a masked cosplay and talk to people about their cosplay too, believe me, being behind the mask, helps get rid of shyness, is like imagining other people in underwear

Nowadays, it seems like my main objective in going to cons is to meet new people and create lasting friendships and awesome memories with them. Hopefully, as you get out there more and more, you'll feel right at home with complete strangers. I too have the social anxiety, but a combination of working two theater jobs and con-going have been almost therapeutic for me.

It doesn't do very much for my speech problems unfortunately, but people like my stutter.

I'm in the middle of making a Haruko cosplay for this one so now i'm more nervous that people will thinking i'm out of character and that'll cause me to be even more panicy... its like a vicious cycle lol getting hyped up on something could help though

I have some reeeally bad luck and awkwardness with underage girls sometimes. I've had one get really close to me playing with my wig, breathing down my neck, and totally weirding out my friend who was there to take my pictures. It's cool to be a lesbian now or something I guess? They kinda assume I like kissing girls because I crossplay. Can't I just like the character? Geez I don't even crossplay that well.

While you will run into a few bitches, know that most people are happy to strike up a conversation with a fellow cosplayer. I've met a number of first-time congoers while making my usual rounds, and I always like taking the time to hang out with them. That's what cons are to me, an opportunity to hang out and pal around with some chill bros who share your interests.

Even if you get worked up and nervous, most of the time we'll understand. Most of us have been there before, myself included. Don't worry about people being judgmental. The way I see it, if someone's gonna be judgmental toward you and you ain't even bothering anyone, then you probably don't want their company anyhow.

That's really awkward haha, i'm bi but i wouldn't ask some chick i dont know to make out just to piss off some protesters, even though i love when people piss them off. I have noticed being gay or bi is kind of a growing thing, which i dont think is bad or anything. Its just annoying when you get those people shoving it in your face and getting overly excited about taking pics of it...
